It was our first visit to Big Sur and we were enchanted immediately. Even the gas station was somehow inspiring. This shot only required a tiny bit of trespassing and potential risk of bodily harm as I photographed directly down onto the top-side of the water. Admittedly, it's a bit cliche, but I do love reading Kerouac while traveling. The below passage from the end of "Big Sur" is particularly moving; hopefully this photograph is even a slight nod to the power and mystical-nature of this place -

"But angels are laughing and having a big barn dance in the rocks of the sea --- Suddenly as clear as anything I ever saw in my life, I see the Cross --- My eyes fill with tears --- We'll all be saved --- now I can sleep."
