Great Lakes Rowing Team
Chicago, IL
2019
Behind me was lake shore drive and the glistening, silvery, glassy skyline of Chicago. In front of me, a sea of people strewn about the sand, leathery and glistening in the late day sun. Just beyond them, a lone, hunched figure in a rowboat, rocked gently by a great lake.
I often find myself fluctuating between extremes of wanting everything or wanting nothing; wanting total solitude or wanting to be lost in a crowd. If I were to psycho-analyze myself for a moment, I think that’s why isolated figures are a recurring theme in my photography and why they intrigue me so much. There’s a serenity in being alone especially amidst chaos, but something so very vulnerable and at times ominous. Where is everybody else? Am I the only one experiencing this?
